After a long and productive open house weekend, I and the rest of the staff are excited for what 2019 has to bring. December 1st and 2nd brought some challenges due to weather and scheduling, but we had a dedicated and passionate corps that was ready to go right at 9 AM. The preparation of the staff was really highlighted well, as everything had been planned out - from the big things like the weekend schedule all the way down to how the lobby should be oriented to best encourage traffic flow. Our member leaders handled equipment checkout, helping several people new to the activity to find their way to the section that most fit their interests.
The level at which this corps is prepared for 2019 was on show throughout the weekend. We had more than half of our 2019 show music in the hands of the brass, battery, and pit, and the color guard had accurate recordings to rehearse along with that helped them write nearly two minutes worth of work over the abbreviated open house schedule. I was excited to be able to share my vision of the program for 2019, including drill concepts, show theme, and all program music, but what was even more exciting was to see everyone nodding along as we talked. Every person present was buying into the positive base assumption that we’re using to drive our rebirth, and with their dedication we’ll be able to move mountains - and turn heads - this season.
We’ll be releasing a few tidbits over the coming weeks, complete with a full show announcement due as a Christmas gift to all of our friends and fans. We’re on target with our season plans, but we need talented and motivated individuals who want to help us take this corps to the next level. Our next camp is January 12th and 13th in Racine, at Gilmore Fine Arts, and we’d all love to see you join us in creating something amazing! Please don’t hesitate to contact myself or anyone on staff if you have any questions, or even just want to wish us well!
